Digital printing is not universal printing. Not all materials on objects can be printed. It has a disadvantage that is also well known: it cannot print plant fibers, such as cotton, which also makes the digital printing process very limited. So why can’t we do digital printing on cotton cloth?
First of all, cotton fiber has a strong alkali resistance, and can not be used with traditional dispersed ink. So the choice of ink is also very important. If disperse ink is used, the cotton cloth will not be colored. The possibility of color fading is very high, so what do we need when choosing ink?
It’s also very simple. Pure cotton has strong alkali resistance but is not acid resistant. From this, we know that we can use acid ink or local silk. On the other hand, we also use active ink to replace dispersive ink, so that plant fibers and ink react chemically to form covalent bonds so that pure cotton can be colored.
Secondly, from the perspective of the printing process, our general digital printing process is to first print the pattern on the paper and then transfer it to the fabric. But this does not meet the process requirements of cotton printing. When printing cotton, we use pattern design – direct inkjet – solid color – drying – finished product processing. Among them, direct ink-jet and stable color are inseparable, which is also a company’s core technology. Poor direct ink-jet and solid color will directly affect the clarity and color fastness of the finished product!
